Women's suffrage in New ZealandHororata District, in the Malvern Ward of Canterbury, has a special connection to the history of women’s suffrage in New Zealand. Though the history of the Women’s Suffrage Bill of 1893 is relatively well known, the local women of Hororata District who lent their support to the movement are still largely invisible.
A Hororata Historical Society project undertaken in 2018-2019 aimed to bring to light the women of Hororata District who supported suffrage and signed the historic 1892 and 1893 petitions. See the full resource online. |
